The field book documents Bailey's fieldwork in Florida from April 23-May 31, 1938; New Mexico and Arizona from June 23-August 2, 1938; as well as Pennsylvania and New York from August 31-September 14, 1938. Dated entries typically contain narrative descriptions of environment and animals observed or trapped at localities. They also include lists of plant and animal specimens identified by scientific name. Localities in Florida include: Jacksonville, Bonita Springs, Miami, Flamingo, and the Everglades. There are also notes organized by genus and species including Vulpes macrotus (Kit fox) in and around Soda Lake, Nevada; Gulo luscus (wolverine) west of Donner Summit, California; Bassariscus (ring tailed cat) near the Lloyd Ligon Ranch outside Stockton, California; and Taxidea taxus (badger) and Mustela lutreola and Mustela vision (mink) in Fallon, Nevada. The field notes also mention a contract for the production of animal traps by Animal Trap Co. of America at Lilitz, Pennsylvania, and various professional activities in and around Washington, D.C. including Bailey's attendance at the third North American Wild Life Conference in Baltimore, Maryland and about Bailey's involvement with the Junior Biological Society.
