The field notes document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, Nebraska, October 6, 1909 - June 18, 1910. Pages are numbered. Entries are dated and describe trips taken, including methods and times of travel, weather, health of colleagues, photographs taken (numbers, descriptions), exchange of fossil specimens (bones, shells), terrain observed (composition, appearance, color, measurements) with rough sketches, lists of expenses, cuts in terrain along railroad lines, lists of plants seen, and lists of maintenance for local schools.
