Notes

Wetmore records observations of birds in the vicinity of his home in North Freedom, Wisconsin from November 1901 - April 1902. The notebook is arranged chronologically, entries begin with the date. In the margin, he records location and time of day. Locations are identified by landowner or landmark. Entries begin with an overview, and then break out descriptive categories. Category headings vary from entry to entry, and often highlight details specific to the entry. Some are general such as details about: flight, sex, note, food, actions, and habits. Others are more unusual: actions while giving song, jealousy of males, tameness, mating actions, resentment of female, intruders. Consistent attention is paid to recording description of birdsongs. Wetmore visits many of the locations repeatedly, including Maine's woods, Hemlock Bluffs, and locations in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Includes some sketches.
