Notes

Correspondence from W.H.C. Bartlett to John Torrey, dated 1842-1843, primarily discussing a "constant battery" Bartlett asks Torrey to order for him for use in "Ampère's electro-dynamic apparatus." He also commisserates with Torrey over a separation from his family, and talks about a recent draining period of examinations he has undergone. Bartlett also refers to a mutual acquaintance, "Baily," a colleague at West Point; this is probably Jacob Whitman Bailey.
