Notes

Correspondence, drafts and fragments from William Baldwin to John Torrey, dated 1816-1818. The majority of the letters and fragments are undated; dated material comes from the late period in Baldwin's life when he was serving as a naval surgeon out of Savannah. Included in the collection are a fragment of a copy of an undated letter (in French) from Aimé Bonpland to Baldwin, accompanied by an extensive list of plants; a letter to Baldwin from an unidentified collegue in Savannah, written while Baldwin was at sea in the ship "Congress" and signed, apparently tongue-in-cheek, "the Botanist Gen'l of Georgia"; and a draft copy, undated, of Baldwin's review of Samuel Henry's "A new and complete American family herbal" (1814).

In English.
