Notes

Attributed to Caspar Gottschling by the Verzeichnis Deutscher Drucke des 18. Jahrhunderts.

Suggested date of publication of 1713 supplied by Jantz and the Verzeichnis Deutscher Drucke des 18. Jahrhunderts.

Suggested date of publication of 1717 given erroneously by Puttick and Simpson in Bibliotheca mejicana: A catalogue of an extraordinary collection of books & manuscripts, almost wholly relating to the history of North and South America, particularly Mexico. To be sold by auction, printed London, 1869.

According to Heinsius' "Allgemeines Bücher-Lexicon," vol. 3, 1812, this forms one a series of works on Asia, Africa, and America, published by Renger in Halle, 1709-1724. A similar series describing European countries was issued by the same publisher in 1720. Cf. Sabin, J. Dictionary of books relating to America from its discovery to the present time, no. 90016.

This work is principally an account of the flora, fauna, and native inhabitants of North and South America; p. 249 has the northern Indian funeral speech from Lahontan, out of which Schiller developed his "Nadowessiers"
