Correspondence from John Darby to John Torrey and Asa Gray, dated July 5, 1841, meant to coordinate with a copy of his book sent to Torrey and Gray via a New York publishing house. Darby discusses various systems of plant classification, including his own, and the reception his book has received. He reminds Torrey and Gray that they met briefly the previous year and notes that he is about to embark on a trip to southern Georgia and the northern part of Florida.
