Notes

Correspondence from Karl Andreas Geyer to John Torrey and others, dated 1843. This collection consists of two letters. The first, dated January 4, 1843, is addressed to both John Torrey and Asa Gray, and apparently accompanied a description and drawing of an unidentified plant Geyer hopes they might be able to identify. The second, much longer letter is addressed to New York printer and nurseryman George C. Thorburn, for whom Geyer seems to have worked briefly; in it Geyer gives a detailed account of his travels since leaving Thorburn's employ a few years earlier and heading west into the interior. Geyer signs both letters with an Anglicized "Charles A. Geyer."
