This field book contains Stejneger's notes from his research in various locations in Japan in 1896 and 1987. Notes from 1896 include a list Stejneger kept of the number of seals sighted and the location of the sightings from 9 March to 26 August of that year. Notes from 1897 include a similar list kept from 8 March to 1 November of that year.
