Notes

William Mann, as a Sheldon Traveling Scholar, went on a entomological collecting trip to the Solomon Islands. He spent the majority of his time on the islands of Malaita San Cristobal collecting a wide variety of insects. The diary is arranged by date, giving descriptions of the island shoreline regions and interior "bush" where Mann collects specimens. He includes stories and details about his interactions with the local populations, and discusses the presence of ships that are recruiting natives as workers for whale boats, plantations and other operations. The end of the journal is organized by subject and includes discussion of recruiting, native names, wildlife by type, and locations visited.
