Notes

The field book documents James Lynch's study of ants in Baja California, Berkeley, Maryland, Guatemala, Mexico, and Florida, 1974-1975. The field book is composed of loose leaf pages, divided into sections. The first section covers several periods in the field: Lynch's study of ants during March 22-28, 1974 in Baja California and contain a list of insect identification, description, and location information that is organized by identifier (BC-1 to BC-39) as well as the notes from field work by Lynne D. Hoock in Mexico during May 6 to June 1, 1976, that lists identification, description, and location information by date and identifier (LMX76-1 to LMX76-27). The next section covers field work during Jame Lynch's trip from Berkeley, California to Maryland during 1974. Notes are organized by date and contain mileage numbers, travel details (accommodations, etc.) and details about expenses. The third section is a single sheet of paper headed with location information, description of habitat, followed by a list of specimen numbers (M2245 to M2470) with type of insect (scientific name). The final section documents a trips to the area around Tampa, Florida, during 1975. This contains travel details (mileage, list of expenses, accommodations), as well as narrative style entries. These are headed with location information, followed by directions to collecting site (sometimes with hand drawn maps), descriptions of habitat, observations of ant colonies (including population estimates, identification, and characteristics).
