The 8 photographs document geological and botanical observations of Bohumil Shimek while in Iowa. Photographs are undated and are grouped by number. They are individually numbered and include typed descriptions listing a combination of location, type of formation, and type of plants. Subject matter includes vistas and detail images of terrain (level prairie, rolling prairie, alluvial prairie), drifts (Wisconsin, Kansas), railroads, hayfields, and Sioux Quartzite. Plate V is missing the photograph. Locations are in the vicinity of Lidderdale, West Okoboji, Rock Rapids, Turin, and Lyon county.
