The 8 photographs document geological and botanical observations of Bohumil Shimek while in Iowa. Photographs are undated and are grouped by number. They are individually numbered and include typed descriptions listing a combination of location, type of formation, and type of plants. Subject matter includes vistas and detail images of vegetation (Mentzelia, Yucca, genus Oxytropis, Asclepias, Silphium), alluvial prairie, loess (hills), and drawings of leaf sections. Some plant specimens are photographed with white background. Locations are in the vicinity of Sioux City, Council Bluffs, and Amana.
