The volume and inserted hand-drawn maps documents field work of E. O. Ulrich in Mississippi Valley sections, 1903; Thebes and Cape Girardeau visit, 1907. The notebook begins with a typed index listing locations and page numbers. Entries are sometimes dated, and include detailed descriptions of geological characteristics of strata as well as presence of fossils.
