This book was kept as a record of the Bikini Resurvey in 1947 by Leonard P. Schultz, aboard the U.S.S. Chilton. Entries are long and narrative and arranged by topic (not chronological). Schultz writes about collecting activities, experiences, and observations on the islands. The notes Include a handwritten report on the biology of Bikini, including Schultz's assessment of the damage done to flora and fauna in Bikini as a result of the atomic bomb, as well as observations on radioactivity and oil spill damage. Schultz describes collecting of fish including a detailed description of the spearing and preservation of a manta ray, and observation and collection of fish nests in coral. Also included are: recording of flying fish (with time of flight); notes on spawning; observations of local customs and traditions (including attending the dedication of a church); observations of landscape from plane; and description of an underwater "television camera" to observe fish underwater. Localities include: Bikini Atoll and Kwajalein Atoll.
