The inventory area consists primarily of the approximately 287,894 acres of land administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) (6 percent), 3,915,807 acres of private lands (81 percent), 351,138 acres of state-owned lands (7 percent), 167,214 acres of Bankhead-Jones land (3 percent), and 69,385 acres National Grassland (2 percent). The remaining are is titled to other national, state, and local government agencies. Within in the inventory area 1,977,673 acres of subsurface split estate lands were inventoried. Due to the size of various sections of non-BLM land within the Visual Resource Inventory (VRI) boundary, these areas were able to be excluded from the inventory effort.
