The note book documents work for the United States Coast Survey, 1880. Data recorded includes voyage information -- time, barometric readings, air and water temperature and wind direction, measured every four hours. Entries describe destinations, activities of survey members, interactions with local inhabitants, descriptions of coastal terrain, crops farmed by indigenous tribes, vegetation, and soil composition. In back are tables of sea temperatures of the Bering Sea and Arctic Ocean.
