Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker was one of the most important botanists of the 19th century and Kew Gardens' most illustrious Director (1865-1885).
30 June 2017 is the bicentenary of Hooker's birth. In honor of this event, a new exhibition at The Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art at Kew Gardens, ‘Joseph Hooker: Putting plants in their place’, will celebrate his contributions to science and feature many of his publications and artwork from those publications. The exhibit will be open from 25 March to 17 September 2017. Learn more.
On 30 June 2017, Kew Gardens will also host a conference entitled "The Making of Modern Botany," which will celebrate Hooker's life and explore his contributions to science and current botanical research. Learn more.
