(BF Eldridge) A clump of pitcher plants containing both Wyeomyia smithii and Metriocnemus knabi (a midge) was studied in the laboratory. Because the mosquito and the midge both utilize the same resource for food (detritus), the author concluded that the 2 species must differentially utilize the resource to achieve niche segregation.
