The authors give evidence of a pheromone released by the females of Culicoides nubeculosus which actively stimulates mating and its action cannot be mistaken with factors such as sight or sound. When males were given the opportunity to choose their way in a T tube, the authors observed that this pheromone attracted the males to its source.
