Notes

Alexander Wetmore used a portion of a "treasurer" book to record observations of birds in Wisconsin from January 1898 to August 1899. Notes were compiled when he was age 12. The folder contains the original copy in an unbound portion of the accounting book measuring close to 9 x13 inches, and two 4 x 6 inch notebooks, in which he hand copied the contents of the "treasurer" book. The first notebook contains a copy of entries January 2 - June 23,1898, and the second contains June 30 - July 2, 1899. The field notes are journal style entries, arranged by date. Locations are usually indicated in the first sentence, often specified by with a landowner's name. Details include common names of birds observed, their physical characteristics, observed activities, descriptions of birdsongs, types of trees in which seen, and sometimes measurements of nests and weather conditions.
