These black and white photographs mounted on fabric pertain to Stejneger's extensive study of the fur seals of the North Pacific-Bering Sea. 4 photographs are panoramas. Depicted in these photographs are fur seals, sea lions, geographic features, and rookeries. Locations depicted include Kuril Islands, officially called Kuril'skiye Ostrova, North Rookery on Bering Island, officially called Beringa, ostrov, Robben reef, and possibly Copper Island, officially called Mednyy, Ostrov. Photographs of Bering Island are dated July 4, 1895 and stamped by the U.S. Commission of Fish and Fisheries; photographs of Kuril Island are dated August 1896; other photographs are undated. Some or all of these photographs may be published.
