The text portion consists of 6 t.p.'s, [310] p. of letterpress description on tissue guard sheets interleaved with the plates, and a 4 p. "Index to the illustrations of the zoology of the R.I.M.S. Investigator, 1892-1900."

Title and imprint vary slightly, with other commanders or supervisors named: C.F. Oldham, J. Hext, J. Wood-Mason, A.R.S. Anderson, W.G. Beauchamp, N. Annandale, F.H. Stewart, and W. Lumsden.

Fuller descriptions of the specimens were published as separate reports by the Indian Museum, Calcutta; some reports also appeared in the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal and in the Annals and magazine of natural history.
