Notes

Correspondence from James Bolton to John Torrey, dated 1852. Letter deals primarily with Bolton's desire to acquire a large quantity of herbarium paper for the use of an unidentified society, presumably also in Richmond. The author may possibly be Dr. James Bolton (1812-1869), a prominent surgeon active in Richmond at the time; if so, the society he refers to could be the Medical Society of Virginia, for which Dr. Bolton served as treasurer and president.
