The correspondence documents Waldo Schmitt's work with the Smithsonian-Bredin Society Islands Expedition, 1957. Letters describe progress reports to J. Bruce Bredin, detailing destinations, collecting activities, dredging, and fish collecting (fish poisoning to obtain selection of fauna common to specific reefs), descriptions of shoreline terrain per island, observed wildlife.
