Notes

Field notes document William Foshag's work, March 21-July 8, 1944 at Paricutin Volcano in Mexico. The first set of entries are listed by time of day. Descriptions are primarily of the Zapicho vent and discuss types of lava formation observed; changes in topography including the cone; gas clouds; and samples collected. At the time of descriptions, eruptions and earthquakes were ongoing. Includes sketches. Entries for March 26 - April 23 describe work done, presumably following flows or veins. These lists consist of a location or designated group, and are followed by numbered locations with descriptive data- - location information, water table information, presence of types of rock or material, topography, and elevations. These are followed by a table measuring paces, free, meters and direction. April 24 - July 8, consist of narrative style journal entries, and contain extended, and detailed descriptions of eruptions, smoke, and bombs (debris) sent aloft by the volcano. About a third of the notebook is blank.
