The field book documents geological fieldwork completed by August Foerste. Dates are not included, and location information is not clear. Entries are recorded from the front and back of the notebook. In the beginning are transcriptions and citations for geology references. From the other direction are field notes headed by location and followed with descriptions of geology. Location information is a combination of geological and other type of landmark, town, and name of owner. Descriptions are sometimes narratives with details about terrain, and strata (characteristics, color, type of stone). Other entries are ordered lists of locations, annotated geological sections with measurements, as well as miscellaneous notes.
