In the "Avertissement" in volume 1, the editor assures readers that this octavo edition of 5 volumes conforms entirely with the quarto edition in 2 volumes that had originally appeared in 1808-1812. The only difference with this one is that, while the original edition had been accompanied by an atlas of 20 plates, this one does not have an accompanying atlas. Instead, for this edition, 2 of the maps from the atlas were chosen as most appropriate for this publication. The first of those is in volume 1: it's the map that makes up the land from as far southeast as Yucatan, to as far northwest as the coasts of New California (originally no. 2 in the atlas). The other of the plates is in volume 2: it's a graph that shows (all in one view) the elevations of the land from the Pacific Ocean to the Antilles (originally nos. 12 and 13 in the atlas)
