This item is comprised of journal entries written by Bailey while performing research "at the request of the Park Service and the Carnegie Inst. to help with their nature exploration program" in the Grand Canyon in Arizona from July 19-August 7, 1928. The notes include narrative accounts of Bailey's team's efforts to collect plants, mammals, birds, and reptiles, in the vicinity of the Grand Canyon. Particular attention is paid to the trapping of lizards and rodents, and to the the behavior of deer. For corresponding specimen lists, see Box 4 Folder 9 of the same collection. Localities include: the San Francisco Mountains, Bright Angel Creek, Bright Angel Point (also known at North Rim), Elden Mountain, Navajo Mountain, San Francisco Mountain, Agassiz Peak, Flagstaff, the Painted Desert, Bailey often describes localities in terms of life zone and sometimes includes elevation information.
