Notes

This field book documents Nelson's collecting activities for the Death Valley Expedition between 11 December 1890 and 24 August 1891. During this trip, he is accompanied by Vernon Orlando Bailey (mentioned several times in these notes) and others. Nelson's daily narrative notes describe specimens observed and collected as well as describe the surrounding terrain. Nelson observes many birds, but mostly collects small rodents such as mice, dipodomys (kangaroo rats), and arvicola (water voles). Other types of animals may also be included. Specimen numbers included range from 942-974. Other 4 digit numbers are listed out of order along side lists of common names, the highest of which seems to be 9900, the lowest, possibly 1100. Collecting was done in Lone Pine, California.
