This diary documents William Cashman Ferguson's botanical observations in Long Island, New York from September 11, 1922-July 5, 1924. The book contains entries from Ferguson's walks and travels throughout Long Island. He notes names of plants observed and/or collected, date, location, and observations on flowering time and other descriptive details about plants and habitats. Specimen numbers included are 1807-3049. Ferguson (1861-1930) received a PhD in Chemistry from Columbia University, and specialized in applied chemistry with a particular interest in metallurgy. Late in life, he became interested in botany, particularly the flora of Long Island, about which he wrote several articles for the Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club.
