Correspondence from Theodore C. Hilgard to John Torrey, dated May 7, 1857. Hilgard begins by asking Torrey to purchase 10 extra copies of a publication in which his work appears (possibly vol. VI, pt. 3 of the Pacific Railroad Survey Reports, which was published in 1857) and then goes on to describe in detail, with diagrams, a method he has devised for illustrating the relationships between all members of the plant kingdom.
