Notes
Charles D. Walcott compiles notes on sites across Newfoundland in 1888 and 1899, detailing characteristics of the deposits of limestone, sandstone, shale,and fossils observed in the Cambrian strata. Each set of notes gives details descriptions of an area, discussing vegetation, erosion, type and quality of sand, color variation of shale, along with implications of observations. Some sets of notes include sketches detailing the strata of the site. They also refer to specimens and latitude and longitude positions. Notes about fossils found are usually listed separately. Locations include the vicinity of Conception Bay, Trinity Bay, Random Island, Smith Sound, Manuels River, and Topsail. Includes Cambrian Section of Manuels River.
