Field book documents Meek's work on the geological survey of Nebraska with Dr. Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden, May 9 - July 18,1853. First portion is a copied reference (text in French). Pages are numbered. Journal of Nebraska begins a few pages in. Entries are dated and begin with his departure from Albany, New York. He describes work with participants, planning efforts, description of landscape (including bluffs along rivers), weather, daily activities, appearance of formations and strata, presence and interactions with local settlers and American Indians (several are quite detailed), and collecting, preparing and transporting specimens. Descriptions cover locations in New York, South Dakota (Fort Lookout, Fort Pierre, Vermillion River), and Missouri (Missouri River). Page 113-116 List of expenses. In back includes notes on rivers Bear Creek, Cottonwood Creek, Sage Creek.
