Gregorio López was a wandering hermit, born in Spain, who left for the New World in 1562. The author and the hermit both lived near the village of Santa Fe. Although López never became a saint, he was accorded the title zvenerabley, a distinction rarely given by the church to figures from the Spanish colonies.

"Tratado del Apocalypsi, de Gregorio Lopez", p. 205-311, has separate caption title. This was first printed in: Vida, y escritos del venerable varon Gregorio Lopez / by Gregorio Lopez, first printed in Madrid, 1678, and is a commentary on the Book of Revelation.

"Libro de medicina por orden alphabetico, compuesto por el venerable siervo de Dios Gregorio Lopez", p. 329-441, has separate caption title, and is preceded on p. 313-328, by a prologue and an index of herbs and medications referred to in the text.
