Notes

This volume is a catalog of bird specimens collected on islands of Kure Atoll and the Midway Islands on the Pacific Ocean in 1965 for the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program. It is volume #3 for Kure and Midway, according to a notation on the cover. Collectors include R. S. Standen, R. R. Fleet, D. A. Bratley, A. Anderson, and N. Heryford. There are two sets of data in the volume. The first set is the catalog of bird collections made. Records date from February 10, 1965 to August 3, 1965, with two records of collections from 1964 included part way through the catalog. Fields include field no., species, age, sex, measurements, collector, date, location, and remarks. Field no. begins at 20430 and ends at 20487. Collections were made on Green Island of Kure Atoll and Sand Island of the Midway Islands. A few non-bird collections are also recorded, including Monachus schauinslandi, Rattus spp., and a snail and other macroinvertebrates. A tabbed page titled "Ectoparasites" approximately halfway through the volume marks the beginning of a different set of data. Records after this page date from February 5, 1965 to August 12, 1965. Fields include no., reference, [bird] species, age, sex, collector, date, locality, and collection location, remarks. The no. field begins at 319 and ends at 883. Reference field includes FWS numbers [presumably bird band numbers] and other numbers, some of which cross-references these records with specimen records in the first part of the volume. Collections were made on Green Island of Kure Atoll. The collection location field notes the parts of the bird from which collections were made. Two loose sheets inside the front cover are a table of bird species with a field number field and a number [tally] field. Field numbers range from 20184 to 20383.
