Notes

Correspondence from Francis Peyre Porcher to John Torrey, dated 1847. As a young medical student, Porcher expresses his delight at corresponding and exchanging specimens with Torrey. After stating that he will soon be visiting "one of your large Northern cities"-- "I prefer New York"-- and bringing specimens with him, he refers Torrey to his soon-to-be published medical school thesis, which he thinks may be of interest-- a catalog of the plants of his South Carolina parish.
