This diary documents Eugene Pintard Bicknell's botanical observations in the northern Bronx and southern Westchester during 1893-1895. The book is comprised of entries spanning Aug. 1, 1893-June 30, 1895, organized by date, with plant name, date, location, and observations on flowering time and other descriptive details about the plant and its surroundings. Bicknell lived in the Riverdale area, and most locations are in the northwestern Bronx in today's neighborhoods of Riverdale, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Bedford Park, and near Woodlawn Cemetery, the New York Botanical Garden, and Van Cortlandt Park. Some observations are also made in southern Westchester county near the Bronx border, in the vicinity of Yonkers, Bronxville, and Tuckahoe.
