The book is comprised of entries spanning 1880-1881, organized by plant name, with date, location, and observations on flowering time and other descriptive details about the plant and its surroundings. Bicknell lived in the Riverdale area, and most locations are in the northwestern Bronx in today's neighborhoods of Riverdale, Kingsbridge, Norwood, Bedford Park and near Woodlawn Cemetery and the New York Botanical Garden.
