The copied, typed journal documents Alexander Wetmore's participation in the Tanager Expedition, 1923, while working for the U.S. Department Agriculture (USDA), Bureau of Biological Survey. The expedition was conducted with the cooperation of the U.S. Navy, Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, and USDA. Begins with an itinerary.Subjects discussed include: presence and harvesting of bat guano and on Laysan Island; detailed description of Laysan Island on approach; discussion of observed bird life (several mentions of Albatross), vegetation, and animals; descriptions of hikes across the island and its varying terrain; introduction of Laysan Rail to other islands; birds lists; bird counts; staffing lists.
