The field notes and 4 maps document Bohumil Shimek's work in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, December 17 - 28, 1906. Pages are numbered. Entries detail observations from trips; entries are usually dated and often headed with location of location range. Includes travel details; terrain observed enroute; accommodations; list photographs taken with number and subject; plants observed, and descriptions of bluffs, riverbanks, and cuts in terrain created for construction of railroad lines. These include descriptions of layers and their color, composition, appearance, and fossils (shells). Each cut is numbered and described. Sometimes includes geological sections and sketches. Shimek discusses stories and observations of racial tensions and spouts of racially motivated violence. There is a list of specimens collected and a list of expenses in the back. Maps are of Canadian River and Buffalo River. Locations include the vicinity of Natchez, Mississippi; Madill, Oklahoma.
