Notes
This item is a field journal by Alexander Wetmore with entries from 1920-1921, during which time he was sent to investigate the condition in certain South American countries as it related to the welfare of migratory birds. Dated entries consist of accounts of hunting and collecting specimens, as well as behavioral observations, travel details, and daily activity. Localities include but are not limited to Brazil, Argentina, and areas within the United States, including Virginia and Maryland. Entries mainly deal with birds, but also include mammals, reptiles, and fish. Collection lists indicate numbers of specimens collected, and include some USNM numbers. Black-and-white photographs, newspaper clippings, maps, and numerous other official or relevant documents are also included. Some notes and materials are in Spanish.
