Notes
This part of a scrapbook was compiled by Lucile Mann in relation to the Smithsonian-Firestone Expedition to Liberia, 1940. Collected materials include permits, photographs, menus, voyage schedule, news clippings, telegrams, and postcards. Photographs show antisubmarine netting in the port of Dakar; the French Navy vessel Richelieu with a damaged stern; Conakry village market; local World War I monument; individual and group shots of expedition participants; and oil barrels at the Dakar port prepared for shipment. Also included is a proposed schedule for the SS West Kebar. There are detailed photograph captions.
