Notes

Correspondence from Charles T. Whippo to John Torrey, dated June 22 and July 28, 1823. Whippo write from western New York, where he is working on the Erie Canal. Both letters accompany plant specimens gathered on the shores of Lake Ontario, and Whippo offers to send more if Torrey wants. He also offers to circulate Torrey's prospectus-- probably for the "Flora of the northern and middle states"-- among his "botanical friends" in the area. Obsolete and unresolved plant names mentioned include Convolvulus sepium, Lemna polyrrhiza, Melampyrum americanum, Potamogeton fluitans, and Scrophularia acuminata.
