Notes

Correspondence from Sébastien René Lenormand to John Torrey, dated January 9, 1863, written after Torrey expressed to Lenormand's friend Edélestan Jardin a desire to correspond with Lenormand. Lenormand asks Torrey what plant specimens he might like, offering species from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, the South Pacific, and even the United States. While he awaits Torrey's answer, Lenormand sends a copy of his work on the use of carbon disulphide in the conservation of plant specimens, and a photograph of himself.
