This field book contains notes on mammals (including whales), birds, reptiles, fish, mollusks, and possibly other specimens in Georgia, Texas, Minnesota, Kentucky, and Rhode Island. The book contains many specimen lists. A large portion of these notes are devoted to Mearns's observations in Rhode Island. The first section contains notes mostly on birds and mammals observed from Fort Clark, Texas, 14 June 1898, to Fort Snelling, Minnesota, 30 April 1903. Subsequent notes and lists fall within the same date range and cover the following topics: mammals, collector numbers 4379-5418; reptiles, ranging in collector numbers 3610-3729; Plants from Lake Worden, Rhode Island; Fishes, collector number range 3070 to 4478, Rhode Island; mammals collected by Louis di Zerega Mearns at Chepachet, RI, collector numbers 1-38, and birds, collector numbers 173 to 187; crustaceans at Fort Adam, RI, collector numbers 1-1025 (missing many numbers); shells from Yellowstone and Rhode Island collected by William H. Dall, January 1903; Fort Adam mollusks; shells collected by Louis Mearns in Circleville, Ohio.
