Notes:

Title from volume 1 title page.

Each volume includes a hand painted title page with ornamental border.

Bound in tooled, red leather, with gilt on spine; Includes 18 type-written leaves listing scientific names of specimens and dates collected, with hand-written annotations; also, 1 sheet listing localities of M.F. Lewis' collections, 1862-1902; photocopies of 10 leaves; handwritten listing with book appraiser's card attached.

Volume numbering on spine of volume 2, marked over as "1"; volume numbering of volume 1 marked over as "3", by unknown hand; description based on original numbering.

Three volumes containing more than 100 sheets of original drawings and watercolors of fungi. Hundreds of species are documented in watercolor and ink, usually with preliminary pencil sketches. Almost all of the specimens depicted in these volumes are identified by scientific name, and the date and place found are noted. Locations include Breconshire, Herefordshire, Ludlow, Montgomeryshire and Shropshire, encompassing Upland Wales to Lowland England. Most sheets show multiple species of fungi, with occasional sheets featuring only one species with enlarged detail. Each volume includes a hand painted title sheet, two of which are signed: "M.F. Lewis". Relativley little is know of Miss Lewis, but the quality of drawings, spanning over 40 years, shows her to have been an extremely skilled artist and mycologist.
