This is a typewritten copy of Edmund Heller's journal of the RAINEY AFRICAN EXPEDITION, March 22, 1911 - March 16, 1912. Entries are dated. They usually begin with travel information like destination, activities with time of day, some geological descriptions of terrain, description of area vegetation (including lists of commonly seen plants), types of wildlife observed (with information about abundance), weather, interactions with wildlife, references to work with the Masai . Much of the entries are notes on collected specimens indicating type, sex, method of collection (trapped or shot), location where collected, quantity, collector. Collected mammals (bats, rodents, primates), insects, birds, and reptiles. Includes sketches of camps sites and traps. Includes Warobi names for mammals. Locations include Mombasa, Nyeri, Nairobi, Maji ya chumvi, Kaimosi, Kapiti Plains [Ilkaputiei], Sultan Hamud, and Mt. Gargues (Mathews Range, known as Ldoinyo Lenkiyio), Kenya.
