Notes
The folder includes a field journal of Edmund Heller during the Telegraph Creek Expedition, September - December, 1914. Includes a partial transcript through September 12th, that includes lists of plants and wildlife found in the area at the end of the journal. Pages are numbered in both notebook and transcript. Entries are organized by date, and describe weather, temperature, locations, specimens collected at each location, locations where types of animals are seen (caribou, moose, sheep), recordings of specimen sizes collected in the past, photographs taken, wildlife seen (including birds, listed by common name), participants, daily activities, interactions with local inhabitants including work with members of the Bearlake Tribe, and sometimes stomach contents of specimens collected. There is collecting information for bats, caribou, moose, birds, wild sheep, and goats. This is followed by a list of vegetation of the Sheslay Mountains detailing type, abundance, and details about growing environment (sometimes favored soil conditions); birds seen including notes about terrain where they were spotted; trees of Dease River; mammals of McDame Post and vicinity of Dease River, with similar additional information. Includes hand drawn maps. Includes locations across British Columbia: Dease River, Telegraph Creek, Sheslay River, and Sam Mill Lake.
