Notes
Eugene Amandus Schwarz (1844-1928) was an important figure in American entomology, especially in the work of the United States National Museum and the United States Department of Agriculture. His papers concern the taxonomy and biology of insects, especially the Coleoptera, and include correspondence and diaries of Schwarz for trips to Florida (1876, 1919), Cuba (1903-1904), Texas and Arizona (1898 and 1901-1902), Guatemala (1906), Panama (1911); diaries and detailed letters listing itineraries of Shannon; biographical information on Hubbard and Schwarz; and notes and miscellaneous publications. This folder includes eight loose leaves from field notes and two postcards related to a trip to Florida in 1919, made by Schwarz with the entomologist H. S. Barber. The notes start on February 17, 1919 and go until March 2nd, 1919. The first postcard, dated 1912, shows two colorized images: a fishing camp in Long Key, Florida on one side and Mr. H. M. Flagler's arrival with the first train to enter Key West. The second postcard, in black-and-white, shows jungle and palms in Womans State Park in Florida.
